Royal Caribbean Unveils Allure of the Seas Amenities
May 14, 2010Royal Caribbean International revealed some of the amenities that will be available aboard the new Allure of the Seas, which starts it inaugural season in December, as well as upcoming enhancements to the Liberty of the Seas and the Freedom of the Seas. The announcements were made by Vicki Freed, Royal Caribbean’s senior vice president of sales, trade support and services, and Lisa Bauer, senior vice president of hotel operations.
Allure of the Seas will feature the Broadway show “Chicago: The Musical,” as well as “Blue Planet,” a second production show featuring aerial artistry, acrobats, and the line’s singers and dancers “in very unique way,” Bauer said. “Oceanaria,” a water show in the ship’s outdoor AquaTheater, will feature Olympic-caliber diving with unique twists. In the Amber Theater, located at Entertainment Place, 3-D movie screens will be installed.
Among the new food and beverage options on the Allure of the Seas’ Boardwalk, Rita’s Cantina will offer a Mexican beach bar atmosphere in the spot where the Seafood Shack is located on the Oasis of the Seas. The specialty restaurant, which will serve traditional Mexican fare with a California flare, will have a $4.95-per-person additional charge. It also will offer margaritas and a daily Fiesta Zone with live guitar music, drinks and dancing. Also on the Boardwalk will be the Boardwalk Dog House, serving traditional hot dogs, bratwurst and sausages. This eatery, which will not have an additional charge, is in response to the need for more free family dining options in the Boardwalk area, Bauer said.
On the retail side, Allure of the Seas will debut the first Coach flagship store at sea in the Central Park “neighborhood,” with a full range of accessories “exactly like you might see in an upscale mall,” Bauer said. In addition, a Guess Accessories boutique will debut on the mezzanine in Royal Promenade.
Technological amenities will include kiosks on the Royal Promenade that will allow passengers to view, print and email their Seapass portfolios without going to the registration desk. In addition, passengers will use the kiosks to view, print and email their personalized calendars showing information like spa appointments, show tickets and dining reservations. They will even be able to view their airline reservations and print boarding passes on the kiosks. In addition, every cabin will have an iPod docking station, and the line will add this amenity to the Oasis as well.
Royal Caribbean also is rolling Oasis-class amenities across the fleet, starting with the Liberty and Freedom during their scheduled dry docks, which commence in 2011 on Jan. 23 and March 6, respectively. Among those enhancements will be the addition of Cupcake Cupboard, including cupcake classes and private parties; an 18.5-foot outdoor screen on the pool decks that will show sporting events and family movies; an “Imaginocean” puppet show; a Royal Babies and Tots program for babies ages 6 to 36 months old, in conjunction with Fisher Price and Crayola; and a system featuring interactive touch screens that offer information about onboard activities, as well as real-time updates, customized directions and routing, and ship factoids.
The Liberty also will feature a new Broadway show, although Bauer did provide details on the show. In addition, the Vintages lounge will feature a trendier décor and offer guests a new and diverse menu of tapas a la carte to pair with a wine. Vintages also will allow guests to self-pour via an Enomatic serving system.
Meanwhile, Royal Caribbean is adding exclusive shore excursions for Oasis of the Seas passengers: The Xcaret Shark Encounter allows guests to swim with nurse sharks at Xcaret Eco Park in Mexico. The Mexican Wine Tasting at Xcaret Park excursion allows adults to choose Mexican food and wine pairings and sample wines at the destination’s new wine cellar. As part of a new voluntourism series, Voluntourism: The Mexican Red Cross Landscaping Project offers guests the opportunity to contribute to the local community of Cozumel. Guests are outfitted with materials and tools for this four-hour excursion, which allows them to assist with the planting of trees and shrubs at the new facility for the local chapter of the Mexican Red Cross. Remaining proceeds are donated to the chapter. For more information, call 800-913-7245.
Newly “Solsticized” Celebrity Constellation sets sail with style
May 12, 2010Celebrity Cruises coined the word “Solsticized” in January, and yesterday, the meaning behind it became reality for guests embarking on Celebrity Constellation® in Amsterdam.
Following an ambitious 15-day drydock and revitalization period, Celebrity Constellation now boasts some of the most popular venues found on the line’s widely-heralded Solstice Class ships, including the tantalizing Tuscan Grille steakhouse; the vibrant creperie, Bistro on Five; a “cool” new ice-topped Martini Bar; the inviting Café al Bacio and Gelateria; Cellarmasters wine bar, complete with the state-of-the-art wine serving systems known as “Enomatics,” allowing guests to select and serve wines by the glass, at the touch of a button; more sumptuous suites, with all new furniture, flat-screen TVs, upholstery, bedding and carpeting; restyled staterooms, with entirely new carpeting, flat-screen TVs, upholstery and bedding; and new color schemes, carpeting and upholstery reflective of the Solstice Class’ stylish, modern design in every public venue.
“Our newly Solsticized Celebrity Constellation is a significant outgrowth of our ‘Designed for you’ brand platform, built around our longtime commitment to identifying and designing what our guests want,” said Celebrity’s President & CEO Dan Hanrahan. “By adding Solstice Class features that we know our guests love to our already award-winning Millennium Class ships – with the impeccable service our spectacular crew delivers across the entire fleet – we’re confident we have a winning combination, expressly designed for discerning cruisers.”
Celebrity Constellation is the first of the line’s four Millennium-class ships to be “Solsticized.” Celebrity Infinity® and Celebrity Summit® will be similarly refurbished in 2011, followed by Celebrity Millennium® in 2012.
The revitalization is only part of Celebrity’s Designed for you platform, which – when combined with the brand’s Celebrity Life onboard experiences, more robust Captain’s Club loyalty program, and other brand enhancements – represents a nearly $200-million investment.
Following her current 7-night cruise through the breathtaking Norwegian Fjords, Celebrity Constellation will present a series of 12-night Scandinavia and Russia cruises, followed by an 8-night Northern Europe and Mediterranean cruise from Amsterdam to Barcelona, where the ship will present a series of roundtrip, 7-night Mediterranean sailings, before a 14-night transatlantic voyage departing Barcelona November 6, ending in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. There, Celebrity Constellation will present two consecutive 14-night Exotic Caribbean cruises, prior to embarking on a 15-night Panama Canal voyage from Fort Lauderdale to San Diego on December 18.

Royal Caribbean Allure to feature “Chicago”
May 11, 2010Royal Caribbean International’s new Allure of the Seas will feature one of Broadway’s longest-running theatric productions, “Chicago: The Musical,” in the ship’s main theater. Reprising the at-sea debut of “Hairspray” aboard sister ship Oasis of the Seas, Allure’s 1,380-seat Amber Theater will join venues, such as the Ambassador Theater in New York City and the Cambridge Theatre in London’s West End, that have hosted the award-winning musical. A new webisode about “Chicago: The Musical” on Allure of the Seas is now playing at www.AllureoftheSeas.com. The show will be slightly condensed to fit an approximate run time of 90 minutes.
While “Chicago: The Musical” is the first production announced for Allure of the Seas, more entertainment options will be available onboard, including a music, dance and aerial acrobatics show called Blue Planet that also will run in the Amber Theater; OceanAria, an aquatic production in the open-air AquaTheater, with high dives and aerial choreography; an ice show on the ship’s ice-skating rink, Studio B; parades in the Royal Promenade; and other shows from jazz performances to comedy.
Auditions for the “Chicago,” as well as the other shows on Allure of the Seas will begin June 3. Open casting calls will be held June 3-5 in Chicago, June 8- 1 in London and June 14-17 in New York. More details and a schedule can be found at www.RoyalCaribbeanProductions.com. For more information, visit www.planmycruise.com
